What is the so-called Bike Park REALLY for?
A few great ideas from Lammaites, besides the obvious hurdling challenge. Somebody tried it the other day and ended up in hospital, via helicopter:

"The park is for BMX tricks.
Bike park? You fools, it's a limbo challenge!
For VIP & Power station workers.
I saw one of the gorgeous old village elders doing his exercise there using the bars.
It's also for storing dragon boats on during Typhoon."

Any more good or bad ideas?

The tourists last Sunday didn't wait for the Bike Park, err, sorry, CPA - Cycle Parking Area, to open, occupying it cheerfully.
Witness the new Yung Shue Wan hangout/meeting spot, luggage storage area and, best of all, new children playground! Yay!

Finally, one of our many ideas what to do with the unopened Bike Park has been realised!
(Sorry for the lousy smartphone pic, I was rushing to the ferry, bike-less this time, awaiting the Govt.'s internal liability struggles to end and the Park to open.)

So the powers that be have now officially closed off the area so even the visitors can't enjoy it. It's all but locked down and bolted.

The lampposts are well protected. That's positive.

That's the first positive comment we've heard in some time!

As the Bike Park might not be used for the foreseeable future, maybe we get some birds posing or even nesting on the lamppost protectors? . ;~}

The CPA is open today.

No ceremony, still no idea who is responsible for it.
I'm sure the recent media interest in the "ghost bike park", (not just the HKFP, but RTHK too) reporters asking questions of government departments and YLF last week was entirely coincidental and it was always planned to open without fanfare today.

News from our District Councillor, Yu Lai Fan:
温馨提示:本人不斷追…快開放單車停泊處給居民使用!今日運輸署通知，明天將圍欄移開，南丫島榕樹灣單車停泊處可供居民使用。
Google translation, cleaned up:

=> NO opening ceremony!

=> Clearing the bicycles off the ferry pier: no schedule now, but will happen later.

=> Transport Dept. will be responsible for operation and maintenance.

First days of the $24.8 million bike park, quite a few cyclists have started using it, but still a minority.

Expect some enforcement action to start in the not-too-distant future:
