My family and I are very concerned and sad about the use of herbicide in our neighborhood.
We moved to this lovely village 2 years ago when it was all green, beautiful, and simply perfect. Now it is NOT just brown, dry, and ugly, but erosion occurs with rain, as there's no living plants holding the soil together.

We're also concerned about the poisonous effect on people's health around here.
There are small children and pets living in this area as well.

Why would anyone do this?
Is it legal?
It just makes us so sad...

From concerned residents on Lamma.

It seems pretty obvious this is not private land, so only the government could legally do that.
It doesn't seem likely though, they send a team with weed whackers to cut plants on roadsides every few months, never heard of them using herbicide.

Send a complaint via https://www.1823.gov.hk/eng/case/complaint.aspx
Ask if they did authorise this, or if not what they will do about it.
Where is this anyway?

Seems like Paraquat has been used when comparing the pics above with http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/hkedition/ ... 891418.htm
Can this be used without a permit and on private land? Why should be used in general???
This seems to be very dangerous stuff for pets, people and the environment:

Hello & Thank you so much for the info.

I read the article, "A Silent Serial Killer" on China Daily from Oct. 2011.
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/hkedition/ ... 891418.htm

It's been almost 3 years and HK government still hasn't done anything to regulate this scary poison, PARAQUAT?
There are lots of other safer herbicide available in the market, so why not just ban this poison from HK all together?
It can't be that difficult. After so many dogs have been poisoned, why not take this simple action?
My heart goes out to all the dogs and their owners who's been the victim of this terrible crime.

It really scares me if it is PARAQUAT used in my neighborhood.
This stuff is very poisonous.

Update:

Found out that in HK, one has to have a permit from AFCD to use herbicide on both, PUBLIC and PRIVATE land.

http://www.afcd.gov.hk/eindex.html

They will check and see if this person has a permission to poison this area of neighborhood.

GREAT NEWS, It worked!!

Almost a year passed and there hasn't been any herbicide use in my village.
We're very very happy to see everything is green again.
Thanks!
