New Under 18's junior race introduced to the Lamma 500 this yearSixty-four dragon boats teams, including the Seven Seas Dragons from Australia, and Under 18 junior teams from around Hong Kong will compete in the 8th annual "Hill Dickinson in Association with Laracy & Co. Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival 2014" being staged at Tai Wan To Beach on Lamma Island this Sunday 4th May 2014.
"The Lamma 500 has welcomed teams from Dubai, North America, Singapore, Philippines and now Australia. We strive to continue to open the event to overseas teams for the good of Hong Kong and Dragon Boating," said Festival Director Mr Brad Tarr.
"We are dedicated to ensure our event is open to as many people as possible and now our youngest paddlers are just 12 years old in the new junior race. It is all very exciting!" commented Mr Tarr.
“The Lamma 500 is one of the most exciting, colourful and friendly sporting events of its kind in Hong Kong but gives away nothing in competitive spirit.” said Mr Damien Laracy, of Laracy & Co.
The Lamma 500 offers food and refreshment stands, showers and changing facilities for competitors, and plentiful clean, dry toilet facilities from Toi Toi for competitors and spectators.
Entry for spectators (and photographers & media!) is free.

Make A Wish Foundation of HKDescription:
Staged on Lamma Island’s Tai Wan To Beach, near Yung Shue Wan, the race best-known by its short handle, ‘The Lamma 500’ for its International-race standard 500-metre course length, is a celebration of Hong Kong’s Dragon Boat history. First staged in 2007 and staffed and supported by the Lamma Island Fishermen’s Recreation and Sports Association, and volunteers from the Lamma Dragons, The Laracy & Co Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival blends the history of Lamma’s sea-faring community with the present-day competition of local Hong Kong teams and international guest competitors. This year sees the introduction of the exciting new Under 18's race for the "Damian Laracy Trophy", in addition to the 500m and 1km adult races.
