Some of my 2013 Lamma 500 photos made it into the Lamma 500 programme. Pick one up on Sunday at the beach.

Lamma.com.hk is proud to be a media sponsor again this year.

Since I know better than to try and reason with Alan and his various straw men, red herrings, and non sequiturs (wrestle with a pig, get dirty, pig likes it, etc.) let me just see if I got bingo here...

OK, this matter seems settled for now. Nobody wants to see me in Lederhosen... {*Phew!*}

But you can see me in an "Official" T-shirt on Sunday's Lamma 500, a first for me!

Please note important information below regarding this weekend's 8th annual Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival

"64 teams including the Seven Seas Dragons from Australia to compete in this Sunday's 'Hill Dickinson in Association with Laracy & Co Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival'"

New Under 18's junior race introduced to the Lamma 500 this year

Sixty-four dragon boats teams, including the Seven Seas Dragons from Australia, and Under 18 junior teams from around Hong Kong will compete in the 8th annual "Hill Dickinson in Association with Laracy & Co. Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival 2014" being staged at Tai Wan To Beach on Lamma Island this Sunday 4th May 2014.

"The Lamma 500 has welcomed teams from Dubai, North America, Singapore, Philippines and now Australia. We strive to continue to open the event to overseas teams for the good of Hong Kong and Dragon Boating," said Festival Director Mr Brad Tarr.

"We are dedicated to ensure our event is open to as many people as possible and now our youngest paddlers are just 12 years old in the new junior race. It is all very exciting!" commented Mr Tarr.

“The Lamma 500 is one of the most exciting, colourful and friendly sporting events of its kind in Hong Kong but gives away nothing in competitive spirit.” said Mr Damien Laracy, of Laracy & Co.

The Lamma 500 offers food and refreshment stands, showers and changing facilities for competitors, and plentiful clean, dry toilet facilities from Toi Toi for competitors and spectators.

Entry for spectators (and photographers & media!) is free.

Funky video shot from inside the dragonboat with a helmet cam, in the water with dragon boats racing by...
and a waterproof camera on a dog who's running around Power Station beach, a first, methinks!

From Dawn Roughsedge‎, Lamma Dragons:

"And the results are - a fantastic, enthusiastic, happy, positive day of racing - the team were awesome!

U18's: Gold! and Bronze! Amazing energy and great attitude by our Lamma stars!

Women: Silver in 1000m, 4th in 500m (just being nudged out of medals - boo!)

Men: Gold in 1000m, 5th in 500m (fastest race of the day and guys coming in a 2.02 for 500m - fantastic!)
Mixed A-boat: 500m - Just nudged out of cup final so into plate final, but we managed to get both the Gold and the Bronze.

All in all - after 11 weeks worth of training, an excellent day's tally! Go Lamma!"

Up for auction tonight, the theme cartoon of the

Lamma Dragons' Wild West fundraiser 2014!

Can it top last year's selling price of $6,000+ for a framed Harry Harrison masterpiece original?

Here's a SCMP video interview with Harry: http://www.scmp.com/video?movideo_m=805657

And his latest selfie from his Facebook page:.

Over $12,000 was fundraised for Harry's illustration last night in The Island Bar, by former Lamma Dragons captain Oliver, a dedicated Lamma memorabilia collector, it seems!

No wonder that Harry wrote to me yesterday when emailing this masterpiece to me that he can't afford his own illustrations anymore!

Last night in the Dragon Saloon, err, The Island Bar. Dawn writes:

"Fantastic fund-raiser, lots of fun, great music (thanks Fraser Douglas), fantastic atmosphere, excellent food (thanks Lisa Stella) and great organisation (thanks Sarah Andrea and team). Special mention for Bill McQueen."

Photos from last night in the Island Bar, by Brad & Claudia McGregor Tarr:

Dan & Sharon told me on the ferry this morning that they hope for many more Lamma Dragons parties in their fine establishment!

Successful recruiting sessions on Power Station Beach yesterday.
If I'd get these posters in advance then I could promote the recruiting more and the posters wouldn't look all crooked from my Mobile phone pics off the Democracy Fence. ;-)
