| Post subject: | Lamma Fun Day 2008 |
From the Lammazine: Lamma Fun Day {L_WROTE}: Second hand goodies - Start clearing some space in your wardrobe and homes. Gather all your unwanted second hand books, toys, gadgets, DVDs and drop them off at our office in Central.
So -- we collect our junk, take it on the ferry to Central, carry it up the hill to Ice House Street, and then in two weeks you carry it back to the pier carry it to Lamma and sell it. Well at least the ferry company profits from it. Are they sponsors? |

The press release has been circulated widely and is aimed at people all over Hong Kong. We suggested dropping donations at the charity's office in Central because that is more convenient for most people than bringing them to Lamma. Lamma residents can bring their donations along on the day. Not rocket science, Alan, I would have thought most people would be able to figure this out for themselves. |

gargoyle {L_WROTE}: The press release has been circulated widely and is aimed at people all over Hong Kong. I was reading an article in the Lammazine. Excuse me for thinking it was directed at people living here. gargoyle {L_WROTE}: Not rocket science, Alan, I would have thought most people would be able to figure this out for themselves.
Well, now I'm really motivated to help out this year. |

I was on a stall last year, and I've donated AND bought lots of stuff ever since the first one. What's your problem with me? I thought someone might respond to advise a local drop off point. Instead I get called an idiot and get reamed out for not using my ESP to work out why you're doing this. |

What's your problem? Instead of asking whether there is a local drop off point you ridicule the press release and accuse the organizers of being in cahoots with the ferry company to rip off Lamma residents. |

Hey, guys! Fighting about little organisational details is not what the Lamma Fun Day is all about! The organisers are all unpaid volunteers, having day jobs and trying their very best to get it all together every year. It's a huge and time-consuming job and they don't always get the thanks they so richly deserve! If you want to blame somebody, blame ME for not catching that little detail before I published the press release they sent to me. I've just corrected it... Sorry for any misunderstandings. |

Instead of asking whether there is a local drop off point you ridicule the press release and accuse the organizers of being in cahoots with the ferry company to rip off Lamma residents. Yes, I was "making a joke". The suggestion that we should carry stuff from Lamma to Central for an event to be held on Lamma struck me as rather absurd. Do I actually have to put a smiley on every remark that's not meant to be taken literally? I've revised my original post for those non-rocket-scientist readers. Any other problems? And apparently you don't have a drop off point on Lamma, then. Fine. |

Your "joke" was sarcastic and spiteful Instead of adding smileys to nasty posts perhaps you could just try to be pleasant |

Lamma-Gung {L_WROTE}: If you want to blame somebody.
I wasn't "blaming" anyone for anything. It was just an observation and a question, as I only get to Central about once a month. Some people seem to have a hair trigger temper. |

Alan, Your comments caused a real shit storm from the Fun Day organisers and some of their friends - many of them my friends, too - accusing me and the website for letting you make these comments as a moderator and alleged "representative of the website". I've spent several hours today responding, trying to clean up the aftermath and calm the flaring tempers, but probably not successfully. We need to have a serious talk... |

Fine. I resign as moderator. Sorry to leave you in the lurch, but I'm tired of this. |

Alan {L_WROTE}: Fine.
I resign as moderator. Sorry to leave you in the lurch, but I'm tired of this. Alan and Lamma Gung As a newcomer to the site I have to say I have enjoyed the banter on different topics in the past. This one seems to have escalated out of proportion. I would urge Alan not to resign and suggest that the people accept his explanation for his first comments. Doing something like the Lamma Fun Day takes enormous effort and a great deal of co-operation from everyone involved. We still have a way to go before it is over. Let’s make it a FUN DAY for everyone with everyone putting in their effort to make it work. |

I think we need to keep this in perspective I just learned (from Richard Dawkins, no less) that of all the water you drink in your lifetime, at least one molecule of it has passed through the bladder of Oliver Cromwell Or was it every litre? |

I just learned (from Richard Dawkins, no less) that of all the water you drink in your lifetime, at least one molecule of it has passed through the bladder of Oliver Cromwell Or was it every litre? Just a laymans query, Did you perchance mean Stephen Hawking who was born on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death? And as well as being an expert on molecules, is possibly famous for his theorem of Gravity Pockets on Lamma? |

Not Stephen Hawking, no, Richard Dwkins in Enemies of Reason part 2 of 2: http://smashingtelly.com/category/science/page/6/ It's quite interesting, unless you're into 'alternative' medicine |
