Not necessarily. If you have a clear line of sight to the broadcast antenna. But many parts of Lamma don't.
If you're watching a digital station, when the signal gets too weak it just goes off, unlike analog which just gets more and more fuzzy.
Then you need a booster (and a big antenna pointed in the right direction).

Cheap TV boosters seem to be almost standard on Lamma as many places don't have Line of Sight to the TV broacasting antennas atop Sok Kwu Wan, South HK Island and Cheung Chau. The new digital terrestrial broadcasting (now standard for almost all of HK) needs a very good signal to deliver perfect pictures. The picture is either perfect or you get complete loss of signal for several seconds, no old-fashioned "snowing" or bad pictures.

A cheap set top box is also required as there are no central antennas like in highrises. Or you could get pricey, under-delivering NOW TV via our very slow Broadband Internet. There are also other streaming/downloading/antennae options. Ask your friends and neighbours what they use and are happy with.

A new "digital", longer antennae is often recommended for free, terrestrial TV and might be provided by the landlord/lady. Try what you have already and upgrade if necessary.

Why don't they make the broadcasting antenna on Mount Stenhouse?

my place doesn't have a clear line of sight to the broadcasting antenna, so I have to buy a booster?

what do u mean cheap? one hundred something is good enough?

Some places the signal, is so weak you'll never boost it to get digital.
You could ask your neighbours what they use.
Boosters are rated by their amplification in dB.
Range is from about 20 to 40dB.
I think mine is 35. Cost was about $180.
