In many of these villages locals block access and build fences to keep people out, even if it's government land, and many keep vicious dogs they let run loose for the same reason. There is a "dog rescuer" there with a pack of half wild dogs that have attacked and wounded people. Bring a walking stick to keep them at bay -- no joke.
Obvious thing is to get a boat.
It's been a long time since I was in the village, but there were several very well off people who lived there and commuted by boat to HK.
I guess that with the oncoming development at the quarry that any land owners there are rubbing their hands and quadrupling their rents and prices.
Even though it will still be easier to get to Aberdeen than climb across the hills to it unless someone builds a tunnel or cuts a path around the coast.
