I doubt whether it would be phrased that way, but I imagine couples have a say in the genetic constitution of their prospective family. If you saw "Made in USA" with Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson, though, you can imagine the kind of things that can go wrong.

The semen bank operated by the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong collects semen for artificial insemination. Semen cannot be manufactured. The supply of semen for our semen bank therefore relies solely on your contribution.

Infertility is not only a woman's problem!
Statistics show that male factors account for about one-third of infertility cases. If these infertile couples want to have children, they can apply for Artificial Insemination by Donor (AID). Since 1981, the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong has been providing AID service and the service has helped more than one hundred women achieve pregnancies. However, there are still many couples awaiting the service at the moment. The Association urges men to donate their semen to help infertile couples realize their hopes for childbearing.

Why do we need semen donation?
Since the start of its Sub-fertility Service in 1956, the Association has been helping couples with fertility problem realize their desire for childbearing. Figures show that about one-third of infertility cases are due to the husband's poor sperm quality, low sperm motility, low sperm count or absence of sperm etc. These couples can achieve pregnancy through artificial insemination using donated semen.

Who can qualify as a semen donor?
Any healthy fertile man aged between 18 to 50 with no history of hereditary or infectious diseases (including asthma, color-blindness, sexually-transmitted diseases, hepatitis, AIDS etc.), and who has passed the medical examination can qualify as a donor.
