The lady in the photo looks considerably younger than the woman I usually purchased the paper from. Can they possibly be related? Anyway, this is bad news! |

I wish I had known something of this story before the closure of the newstand. Even though we never really spoke I would have found some way to let her know, even if just with a smile, that I had concern for her welfare and feelings. I have to assume she knows what is best course of action for herself, but I think it's important when going through such difficulties to keep oneself within the loop of one's social contacts. Seems to me closing her shop will cut some of that off. But I'm sure her friends will stay connected with her. Best of luck to you Ida, from one who never really took the chance to get to know you but appreciated the convenience of buying his am paper from you as he rushed past. If you reopen your shop some day I will take more care to get to know you as a person. |

Yeah I also recall a more mature looking Chinese lady who seemed to run the stand with the help of a (what I assumed was) foreign domestic helper. Perhaps the lady in the pic was just standing in for her on the last day - a relative or friend? |

good luck to the lady (NOT the girl pictured), but what's with this inaccurate thread, lamma-gung? gossiping about people's lives like this is pretty low. have you been partaking of too much Daily Express from the ferry pier?? |

Rumour has it that they have reinvested into a poly-prop chair and two amah-bags to take on Nick. |

The new newspaper stand will be re-opened and owned by a couple called "Kwai" and "Mei". The old owner closed it because she felt too tired to run it. So we don't need to "walk a mile for newspaper". |
