I believe this is a fairly regular occurrence.

dog poo everywhere

I am going through a really bad run at the minute. Stood in dog crap three times in as many days. I think there is more dog poop per square metre on Lamma than anywhere else.

I don't like Tseung Kwan O. I don't know why but I really don't like it. It's soul-less, with never-ending highrise blocks, stuck out int he middle of nowhere, the same old shops and services. Hate it? Almost, not quite.

What I want to know is - can someone direct me to an Internet forum where I can post messages saying what a horrible place it is, maybe post a few photos of particularly nasty bits, maybe throw a few random put downs in and generally let people know what a hole they live in? I feel I have a duty to the people of Tseung Kwan O to provide this service

The Yeti, a medium sized hippy or a very large dog?

Crikey! It's the attack of giant turds! A mighty fine specimen. Apart from the usual suspects mentioned above, could it be from one of our landlords??

Every week i noticed black soot on my outdoor furniture on the ground floor.

For about two years (2014-16) the harbour and its immediate surrounds will be a huge construction site - jackhammers, huge noisy barges and cranes, mucky temporary congested paths, sweaty blokes, dust, concrete mixers and general shite everywhere. The restaurants will be no-go areas except for the sweaty builders who will need to be fed of course. Lock up your daughters. When it's finished there'll be a crap new concrete harbour.

Give me a F’ing break. I realize forums are the place to vent and whine, and I’m a Lamma newbie, but puhleeeeeze. This guy sounds like Ebeneezer Scrooge complaining about Christmas.

Let’s start with the least offensive and work our way up (I won’t include rising rents - that’s being discussed better elsewhere.):

Quote:
7. Drugs...... Ketamine, Cocaine and Grass easy to buy.

Well then, don’t buy them. Besides, is drug use here any worse than the rest of HK?

Quote:
3. Poisonous snakes, giant centipedes and spiders.
4. No big supermarkets.
5. Packs of semi-wild dogs running around.

If you want to live in nature, then things will be wild. Want to avoid poo? Go to a mall.

Quote:
2. Thousands of weekend tourists blocking all the streets.

This means our little island is so charming that people all over HK want to visit us. This is just snobbery.

Quote:
10. Weekend ethnic minority parties singing Celine Dion's 'my heart will go on and on and on' with their Karaoke.

Personally, I find it wonderful to live in a place where people sing out with joy on the streets every week. Then again, I’m not offended by “ethnic minorities.” I thought Lamma people were tolerant. I hate ‘code words’ that cover up bigotry and racism. I gotta call Bullshit on this.

Quote:
9. Local land owners dumping bags of rubbish/concrete into ponds and ditches.

I agree this sucks, but like all of ‘Bruce Lee’s’ reasons, it seems overblown.

Quote:
8. Noisy dogs on balconies and rooftops, barking till 6 am.
6. Living next to an illegal guest house with 12 H.K. students partying till 6am.

I’ve yet to see any of this, but I’m new here. Again, it's probably overblown.

We should hang a big and easily noticeable "Lamma Rental FAQ" outside the ferry pier:

350' = $3000
700' = $6000
daily = $300

"I'm new here"

Yes, it shows :) most of the old timers here are having fun trying to put people off coming because they think it puts the rents up and alters the tone of the place.

In fact the "Welcome to Lamma" hippy sign does the trick all by itself.

Doh! :oops:

Shoulda noticed the irony sooner. Glad I'm new enough that only Lamma-Gung knows who I really am.

Karma has already paid me back for pressing "send" when self-righteous:

On the way home I stepped in a fresh, soft, 3-4cm high pile of Lamma dog poo. Rolled my suitcase through it, too.

Is that why the old timers are sensationalising the proposed shoreline re-development? I finally understand!

Well in that case, it would only be right to report that there are resident Lamma ghouls and demons stalking the dog sh!t-scented night for non-Lamma blood..... mwa ha ha!
