I fully agree with Insomniac. The queues are usually very short, less than 5 minutes in my own experience as a frequent check depositer, and often there's no wait at all, especially in the afternoons.
EXCEPT when you're going there first thing in the morning when the little old ladies are queuing up half an hour before HSBC opens. If there are more than a few people at any time, wait half an hour, have a drink and when you come back the queue has probably almost completely dissolved.
The service from the staff is almost always exemplary, way above and beyond any bank service I've encountered in town. A friendly smile and they greet you by name, a real village service, very patient, I like going there and I'm not kidding.
