Apart from the 3 Main Tunnels along the walk to SKW from YSW there are numerous tunnels on Lamma dug by the Japanese during the occupation of Hong Kong. The ones on the higher slopes presumably were lookout posts. Took some photos of what is one of the better known ones on Ling Kok Shan which has entrances on both the East & North sides of the hill. Think over the years I have been down 20 or so of the tunnels of varying lengths from as little as about 5 metres to others of about 50m or so with a number of different entrances & passages. Was told that somewhere in the forums there is some history about these tunnels - couldn't find it - does anybody (Alan) know where it is.

Ling Kok Shan is the "mountain" behind Sok Ku Wan with the aerials & helipad on top. The Old Japanese Hospital is in the bay before Pak Kok as you go up the hill towards Pak Kok from YSW. Not sure where the "Old Houses" are by PSB, but there have been diggings about 50yds from Main Street in recent years fairly near the Clinic. Apparently there are a number of artifacts shown in HK Museum dating from 3300BC of Fishing & Combat items found in Sham Wan Bay (Turtle Bay) from the Middle Neolithic Period. The "Druids spot" is on the right hand peninsula as you look beyond Mt Stenhouse from PSB, or, 2nd peninsula to the right from Sham Wan Bay. As for the Portugese "Castle" - I think BR was possibly confused with the Pirate (Portugese) "Castle" on the East Coast of Lantau |
