Rendevous With Lamma

So, here I am, a Canadian with connections to HK, and Lamma, but I've never been there. The farthest east I've ever travelled is the Soeul Airport when on my way to Tokyo in 1978. I am currently planning my rendevous with Lamma for August 06 but I need some travel advice from "the locals." Here are a few questions that have come up in my planning for "the big trip."

They tell me it will be hot. So, how hot is it there in August? Is it true that in August one doesn't need a Barbeque because the rocks on the beach are so hot? That brings a whole new meaning to the name, "Power Station Beach."

What is the swimming like there? My Dad was born in Hong Kong. He told me about an annual harbour swim that he used to race in. Do they still do that?

Here in Canada, water skiing is a popular summer activity. Do they permit ferry passengers to do this?

Mike: You say your Hongkong-born father recalls joining a harbour swim: that must have been over 30 years ago!

The annual Cross-Harbour Swim was abandoned after a swimmer, identified as a gweilo schoolboy, went missing during the race in 1971: probably caught in an undercurrent or after swallowing some of the oil-polluted sea water, his body was washed ashore in Lantau.

Lately, there has been some talk about reviving this annual sporting event, but the prospects are not bright, given the shocking state of the water in Victoria Harbour into which raw, untreated sewage is discharged daily. The only decent beaches left in Hong Kong are around Hebe Haven, particularly Pak Sha Wan or white sands beach. But I wouldn't bet on that.

Take your chances and the best of luck!

For watersports : banana boat ,wake boarding in Sai Kung , snorkelling in Hoi Ha Wan (near Sai Kung). The fee isn't expensive.Nowaday, the popular watersports is water skiing in HK .
August weather - it's so hot and sticky as Alan mentioned, but all the time is sunshine day.
