I will be re-visiting Lamma Island this weekend.. I would like to know any good websites that provide maps and descriptions of the trails and villages of Lamma (in English)....

Cheers!

Have a look at my comprehensive list of Lamma-related websites at:
http://www.Lamma.com.hk/forum/Lamma-Gung/Lamma-Links.htm

The best, most detailed and up-to-date maps of Lamma (and all of HK) are at http://www.centamap.com/scripts/centamap.asp?lg=EN

Descriptions of hikes & trails can also be found in my Lamma Links page above, but my favourite hikes (with great photos) would be found on http://www.lamma.net/walks/walks.html, the first and original Lamma website.

Lamma.net lived for just a bit over two years and stopped being updated in the year 2000, over 2 years before Lamma.com.hk went live on July 23, 2002.

The address is now being used by the former Lamma.net webmaster to promote a theory that we're all descended from Aquatic apes in an ocean in current-day Tibet.

Not really that much different from most of the late night conversation in most of the pubs on the island in fact!

I've just checked Lamma.net and the domain name has just a few weeks ago been sold to one of these companies that put menus with commercial links on disused, but formerly popular web addresses, and pop up banner ads over them. The first link on Lamma.net now goes to "Christian Dating".

Anybody knows where the aquatic ape pages went to? There were quite (unintentionally) amusing and the former webmaster and his pet theory have even featured in the SCMP (and the Lamma-zine).

Damn .Too bad he didn't offer it to someone else when it expired. Now it's just a parasitic "search" page.

Anyway, for the moment you can find snapshots of the site at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.lamma.net

But if anyone has the ability or desire to mirror these pages, (especially the old Lamma pages, not so much the Tibetan apeman ones) it would be a good idea to archive them now. Wayback pages can become inaccessible if the new site owner pulls them.
