Garoupa and SeaMonsters
Saturday 11 March 9 pm
Amnesia (3/F Al Aqmar House, 30 Hollywood Road)
$50 on the door
Sorry everyone, I, in my utter incompetence, put the wrong price on the fliers. It's $50, not $80 as previously stated. D'oh!
About the bands
SeaMonsters:
Based on the policy of "Freer and No Flatter Music", this band was formed by Ogura (from Very Ape) and Koya (from Speed King and Helter Skelter) in 2001. They recruited a guitar player from the newspaper, and Ito joined the band. While making efforts to compose original songs, they joined a band competition held by Tom Lee Music. Though almost no one knew experimental music in Hong Kong, Ito won the award for best guitar player. In order to expand their music, Akiyama (turntable) joined in 2002. In the same year, they played in a wine bar in Shenzhen because of the organizer's wrong choice. As was thought, almost all the customers rejected their experimental music, and they were stopped after playing only 2 songs!
Nothing like that will happen in the dark embrace of Amnesia on Saturday night, when they shall unleash a maelstrom of mind-bending rock, guaranteed toexcite parts of your body that you never knew existed.
Garoupa
Honestly, if you haven't seen this band, you really should. They're bloody good, mate. Alex, the lead singer, well, he's got these crazy things he does with his face. Mental. Kinda like Mick Jagger crossed with Steven Tyler (or is that Stephen Hawking?) Crikey, that's a bit un-PC. Sorry. He can sing with the best of them though, and he writes some tasty numbers. If you're after some good, honest, hearty rock, with chunky guitars, funky bass, punky drumming and a monkey vocalist, you can't go wrong with Garoupa. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that these lads have been churning out some of the finest original music Hong Kong has seen in, oh, ages. Check them out. You won't be disappointed.
