There are a couple of artists who has caught my attention when I opened the programme guide for the upcoming Hong Kong arts festival. Hiromi Uehara is one of them.

Chick Corea endorsed her before and such endorsement isn't easy to get from such a master. So, to know more about her, I sampled a few tracks from her last album "spiral" and a few videos on YouTube. I was really amazed by her technical capability and her live performances were sensationalat first, but after five minutes or so, I found her music is just too "busy" for my consumption.

Performing makes her "very happy", but listening isn't so enjoyable in such charged environment facilitated by such high note and emotional density. I was tired.

Hiromi may be young and attractive for some, but she might be better when she becomes a bit more matured musically and emotionally.

MP3 audio is available on her website.
