Geocaching is hugh worldwide, and here in Hong Kong its gone out of this world. Last month there was a geocache found on the international space station, with a dinner in TST to celebrate, as well as the first ever Geocache Wedding, which was held here in Hong Kong.

Geocaching is an inexpensive enviromentally friendly family game that all can play for the cost of only a few dollars. Geocaching offers a chance to visit and go to places you often walk right by, and seeing views, history and locations that are often over looked by most.

Every day people from around the world visit Hong Kong and LAMMA ISLAND to go Geocaching. Just watching the cache logs over the last few months I have noticed that there is at least one Geocacher visiting Lamma every day, and nurmous more over the weekends.

Geocaching often run a CITO (Cache In; Trash Out) cache or event, where cachers (people who do geocaching) carry a trash bag with them and collect trash from around the cache sites as they spend the day caching. Great fun way to spend your afternoon or weekend as well as helping to keep Lamma clean of trash.

In 2014 we ( Hong Kong Geocaching Group) are planning a large CITO geocache event on Lamma to attract worldwide cachers and clean some of the Geosites up. More information about this event will be posted in 2014.

Currently there are over 20 geocaches on Lamma with the aim to increase this to closer to 100 caches prior to the event.

So want to know more about Geocaching please go to www.geocaching.com or read below:

From the Geocaching website.

The Game
What is geocaching?
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

How is the game played?
At its simplest level, geocaching requires these 8 steps:

Register for a free Basic Membership.
Visit the "Hide & Seek a Cache" page.
Enter your postal code and click "search."
Choose any geocache from the list and click on its name.
Enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS Device.
Use your GPS device to assist you in finding the hidden geocache.
Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location.
Share your geocaching stories and photos online.
There are many other levels to the game. Keep reading the guide to learn more!

What are the rules of geocaching?
If you take something from the geocache (or "cache"), leave something of equal or greater value.
Write about your find in the cache logbook.
Log your experience at www.geocaching.com.
What do I need to go geocaching?
The only necessities are a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile phone so that you can navigate to the cache, and a Geocaching.com Membership.

Where are geocaches located?
Geocaches can be found all over the world. It is common for geocachers to hide caches in locations that are important to them, reflecting a special interest or skill of the cache owner. These locations can be quite diverse. They may be at your local park, at the end of a long hike, underwater or on the side of a city street.

Are there different types of geocaches?
Yes. There are currently over a dozen "cache types" in geocaching, with each cache type being a different variation of the game. See the full list of Geocache Types.

That's a really interesting topic for a hiker/biker like myself! In over 3,000 Lamma-zine stories over 11+ years I've never published a story on geocaching yet...
Till now! Nov 28: see home page of this site. Thanks, rkl_77!

Just joining and checking out Geocaching.com, there are quite a number of intriguing locations all over Lamma, some of them hidden by rkl_77:
Loh Ah Tsai Stone Circles, Lamma Channel Lookout, The Thrones Of Lamma, Windy Tung O, Puppy Dog Head Rock, Picnic Bay View,...

I see a few more Lamma-zine stories and photo shoots coming up soon.
Last Sat, they went up to Mt. Stenhouse's secret caves, I think?
But I was Clockenflapping all weekend as a registered media photographer, too knackered to climb mountains, after running around much of the days all over the very flat West Kowloon Cultural District.

Two groups of acquaintances went up to Mt. Stenhouse this weekend. 'Tis the season for mountaineering....
Photos coming up, hopefully...

rkl_77 even wrote about it in the online logbook in the Lamma Island - Mt Stenhouse geocache last Saturday.
Here's a photo of the entrance to one of these infamous caves up there.

The yearly Four Peaks Race by the Aberdeen Boat Club is coming up in January. Some of their members will run up and down Mt Stenhouse in less than 1 hour, some of them even camping up there overnight, crewing the peak's race checkpoint.
