December's Rock up ‘n’ Ride:
Project X, Lamma Island - Sunday 7th Dec.:

In case you're wondering about the neon-coloured flocks of spandex-clad, fancy-helmeted guys on carbon fiber bikes worth tens of thousands of dollars this Sunday all over North Lamma, here's what they're up to, this Sunday only:

http://www.hkmba.org/index.php/forum/1-hkmba-mountain-bike-advocacy/3136-rock-up-n-ride-december-7th-lamma#3551

Quoting from their home page:
"Route Summary:
Upon arrival at Lamma's Yung Shue Wan ferry pier, a quick dodgem ride through the bustling narrow streets will lead you up the hill to our first stop at Tai Peng Village. Here we will split into two groups. The more hardcore riders will tackle Project X while the leisurely group will enjoy the 'Cable' Roads and village paths looping back eventually to Yung Shue Wan Main Street.

Project X can be ridden in a few variations, the most popular starts with undulating technical singletrack resulting in a difficult climb of rock gardens and switchbacks. A short breather at the top and then a 4 minute adrenaline rush of steep boulder fields and dusty singletrack. Choose your line wisely, the obvious route just may be the most difficult.

Some of the local riders will be on hand to support the ride and offer advice on how to approach specific sections."

How about joining them? It's great biking weather right now and our beautiful trails are clear and (mostly) blockage-free for some wild rides. Most snakes have gone into hibernation now.

I might have to stick to the paths myself as I had my first-ever biking accident on Lamma recently.
I was getting off my bike up Heart Attack Hill to Tai Peng, falling down the embankment, slashing my elbow and twisting my left knee.

Cleaning myself up, I continued on my bike all the way to the Lamma Clinic on a Sat afternoon. No doctor in, friendly nurses bandaged me, gave me a tetanus shot and firm advice to go to A&E in hospital for X-ray and checkup (ignored). Then I rushed (still on time) to the Lamma Community Planning Workshop in the Primary School. But I've be missing my 8am Bear Camps since then,...

Yes, life on Lamma can be full of dangers and excitement:
painful hornet stings, centipede bites, dog bite, loads of mosquitoes, poisonous plants causing burns and itches,... and that's just my own experience... Well, at least no snake bites (yet)!
