It is a lantern Fly or bug, look on the trunks of Longan or lychee trees, they are about 3cm long and fairly common.

Ever thought of upgrading to the newest model at 5 MPixels that Sony announced yesterday? If yes, wanna sell your current model at a HUGE discount to me? :lol:

I need a new digital camera, since I left my Kodak on a bus...
Looking at the surprising quality, color-richnes, contrast and sharpness of your Cybershot's, well, shots, I was considering this line of very small and stylish cameras...

My informant in Pak Kok tells me the picture is of a Lychee Lantern Bug (Pyrops candelaria). He has written an illustrated article on lantern bugs which appeared in a 1999 issue of the WWF magazine "About Life" in both English and Chinese.

Issues of "About Life" have a lot of nice aticles and pictures of Hong Kong wildlife, and are on-line at http://www.wwf.org.hk/eng/ but so far they have only got back issues as far as 2000.

Why don't you enter your Lanternbug photo into the Animals section of our Photo Contest? You must have more great photos like this one? Up to 5 per category!

Reading our messages above again, from a few months ago, I was trying to get your Sony Cybershot digital camera... :twisted:
It's funny, in the meantime, I got a Sony Cybershot DSC-S70 from somebody else, also 2nd-hand, even for free, bartering it for my services.

I love it like you do and have shot almost 1,500 Lamma photos already, many of them ending up in the e-zine. Thanks for alerting me to the qualities of the Cybershot line of digicams, yaffle!
