Having no idea - like almost everybody in this forum - what a HOLGA 120 is, I found this nice description on Amazon.com where this camera is not available anymore:

Get basic and go postmodern at the same time with Lomographic's Holga 120SF. Unabashedly low-tech and ideal for beginning photographers, all the operations are completely manual, including the focus, aperture, shutter, and film transport controls.

Yet the camera produces an abstract, soft-focus picture that even seasoned photographers find unique. Double exposures, streaming colors, warped vignetting, and unpredictable light leaks are all possible with this camera.

This camera is like the total, absolute opposite of any fully automatic, modern digicam! But it produces very interesting, wide-format photos and soft-focus colours! Siuyu's photos above remind me a lot of one of the very first consumer digital camera, the Apple Quicktake 100 (Apple's first digital camera, 0.3 Mpixels, 1 MB memory, no autofocus, shaped like a binocular). I owned and used it about 12 years ago, my very first digicam.

I've been looking for Lomo photos of Lamma for a long time, but could rarely ever get any for publication, even though there are quite a few Lomographicists around on Lamma. Scanning and emailing the film prints seems to be too much trouble for most of them.

Thanks, siuyu! More, more!

It could be me, but most of the 3 pics look out of focus and have a bad angle to them? I wouldn't buy this camera as you are missing half the interest. My phone takes better pics than that!

hey, who said that a good picture has to be razor-sharp, it's the mind behind the camera, not the camera itself.

LG, you can actually get one of this from the original maker in Hung Ham Plaza for $120.00 only.

Sorry, I've left my non-digital photo-taking days behind me 12 years ago and won't go back to shooting on film ever, I hope. Waiting for days to see that you messed up that last photo shoot isn't for me anymore. And the cost of film and no control whatsoever over the picture AFTER shooting it, except scanning the usually badly developed and massively cropped photos.

Very hard to imagine all the inconvenience back then. I was taking pictures only during vacations back then and they were nothing special. Digital has changed photo-taking so much and helped so many people to take more and much better photos.

I don't think I'd ever want to return to film.

I'm no expert, not by a long shot, but it seems reasonable to assume that the effects produced by a lomo camera could be created from digital images plus a bit of Photoshop wizardry. Probably a lot of work :?

However, http://www.lomography.com seems an interesting place to start looking when dealing with these wonderfully low-tech cameras.

That reminds me, I've still got one of those little Minolta 16mm snapshot cameras gathering dust somewhere. I expect you can't even buy film for it any more, but perhaps I could donate it to a museum :D
