For a while now we have had reason to be suspicious of doctored photographic images, but techniques are getting pretty sophisticated these days - this short conference presentation summary gives some new reasons to doubt the authenticity of what we see

Mind-blowing. And disturbing, because these are Israeli scientists, and Israel has long tried to alter the history of Palestine and the Palestinians. Now they have another tool for changing the record.

Especially disturbing is the use of wifey-poo as a test.

Very disturbing that the first thing you think of in relation to image resizing is using it as a "method to alter the history of Palestine".If that was on their agenda, perhaps they shouldn't have announced their method at an international conference.
Do you imagine they're going to graphically resize the West Bank?

Stalin had people airbrushed away in the 30s. You don't need hi-tech. This just saves a few hours of work, it doesn't create a new capability.

People amuse themselves now by combining images in PhotoShop to make fake history. See for instance <a href="http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blphoto-wtc-g1.htm">Tourist Guy</a>. Or <a href="http://www.freakingnews.com/">Freaking News</a>.
