Post subject:  watertight compartments

Below is a note from today’s The Standard. It reminds me that I never heard a word about checking all the Lamma IV sibling vessels for the presence of the watertight compartments. That would be most expected consequence of the whole investigation. There are many ships of this model including the Aberdeen ferry.

Marine Dept 'approved defective boat'
19-09-2013
A drug rehabilitation school on Lantau Island has filed a complaint with the Legislative Council over a boat it bought last year that had been approved by the Marine Department.
The school said it later turned out to be unusable. Alman Chan, the principal of Christian Zheng Sheng College, Alman Chan, questioned how the Marine Department could approve vessel that he said was in poor condition.

Mr Chan said the boat was bought with public funds, and he hoped Legco could help investigate whether the Marine Department had neglected its duties. Mr Chan accused the department of being unhelpful.

He said the school was also planning to file another complaint with the Ombudsman.
