Does anyone know what happened to Sidney? I don't know his family name. He must be (or was) the oldest gweilo on Lamma - certainly into his 80s. He lived straight up the Po Wah Yuen steps at the end of the ferry pier and used to walk his old dogs up the hill into PWY most mornings. White hair and a bit shaky on his legs, but always well turned out. Originally from England I think, but a long term Lamma resident. Anyway, I haven't seen him for two or three months and a local guy who was walking up the steps to Sidney's place said he was "finished", which doesn't sound good. Anyone know anything? I don't think he knew many people.

I heard that Sidney died about three months ago - caused by a sudden onset of pneumonia. He was around 90 years old. An old HK hand, apparently he had a good send-off by ex mates and colleagues. RIP Sidney.

sorry to hear about that.
I noticed his sudden disappearance, he was often on the same ferry, late in the evening. I didn't know his age, but he seemed amazingly lucid and fit for his age. I always wanted to know more about him, but never met anybody who knew him, and i am too shy to talk to strangers. He had quite a busy social life in town, and always dressed up for the occasion. One of the best-dressed men on Lamma.
RIP
