Yes, you are right Gungy old sport, it was the ever-youthful Malcolm Golding I was referring to, who of course was once a sidekick of ex-financier Chris Knox in the defunct Waterfront Bar before the usual Knox disagreements and unpleasantness set in.
In fact the Waterfront Bar in its earliest days (1984-85) was a very lively watering hole with what seemed to be a party going on nearly every night when Golding and his gregarious ex-wife Ashim were partners in the bar. There was always an argument, romance or business deal struck in there.
It actually went down hill when they left and the dead hand of Knox took control. The one thing Chris could not get in his head round was that he is not a very interesting person, and that making a few shillings did not qualify for the Lamma Hall of Fame.
Being a media man myself, one trait I have noticed among press types in Hong Kong over the years is that death from drowning is not uncommon. I can think of three who perished from misadventures in the South China Sea. Ben Jordan's was the only intended one, the others were due to an inability to stay afloat as a result of excessive drinking.
