Some of my photos above have been published on the Operation Santa Claus website run by the SCMP.

http://osc.scmp.com/public_upload/album

After not giving me any credit at all for last year's 4 Treasure Hunt photos published in their print edition (see above), despite the Island Bar's request when submitting them, they got it *almost* right this time:

"Lamma treasure hunt-Gung of Lamma.com.hk"
24 December 2014"

Only 3 mistakes in their caption this time:
Island Bar Treasure Hunt
Lamma-Gung instead of Gung
Date should be 7 December.

Makes you wonder about the accuracy and fact-checking in the SCMP's editorial content...

Maybe, perhaps some of these photos will make it into their print edition tomorrow, Dec 27.

See SCMP today, Dec 27, 2014, page A5:

Treasure Hunt boosts Operation Santa Claus charity (SCMP)

From the Island Bar press release, used for part of the SCMP story:

"The city's year-end fundraiser has inspired many charitable minds to turn the campaign into a new edition of "Hong Kong's Got Talent".

Take the Lamma Island Treasure Hunt as an example. Masterminded by The Island Bar, the cross-island quest on December7 spurred the local community and their associates, including dogs, to look for hidden prizes through a set of funny clues.

"The clues take them to parts of Lamma that even locals may never have explored, and require an agile mind and a sense of humour," the organisers said of the treasure hunt's 16th year with Operation Santa Claus.

With that, Lamma residents set off their own series of charity activities designed to help Operation Santa Claus, the fundraising campaign organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK.

Activities that challenged the mind included the Christmas Music Quiz and a 2014 In Review Quiz. Thanks to the geniuses who came up with tough - if not unanswerable - questions, donation boxes were filled to the brim.

For a test in physical fitness, the annual Santa Sprint on January 4 will see brave souls race in dragon boats on wintery waters. All proceeds from entry fees and food sales go to Operation Santa."

They used a photo by Daniel Clarke that I submitted among my own shots via Dan Peterson of The Island Bar, giving Daniel credit, of course. The credits got lost in the email chain, it seems, and they credited me instead. Well, it almost makes up for not crediting me at all for my 4 Treasure Hunt photos they published last year. The story is printed and out there, too late to change, so let me give credit to Daniel once again for .

And the SCMP got one much more important fact wrong, the Yella Umbrella Fellas were third overall, not first! They won last last year, but were disappointed last year. The honour went to Saved by Beacon, No. 1!
Here are the rankings once again.

1st Place: Saved By Bacon
2nd Place: Mental Marys
3rd Place: The Yella Umbrella Fella

Best Costume: Santaz Army
Fastest Time: And The Winners Are
Best Team Name: Independent Secular Island State
Most Excited Player: Tracey Duggan

"Hi, Sharon here from The Island Bar.

Island Bar Treasure Hunt for Operation Santa Claus 2015

Is there anyone out there who feels they can commit some time and effort to a very worthy cause?

For the past 16 years the IB customers and families have supported Operation Santa in many ways and this year we plan to do the same, with Father Christmas through the village, Christmas Quiz, etc. However we are in desperate need of some help for the TREASURE HUNT.

Those of the many wonderful people who have helped in past years simply can't do the usual great and dedicated job this year due to personal commitments or health reasons.

So I wondered if there is anyone out there who would have the time to walk around, set the trail, make up a few clues and such? It really needs someone with time and energy to walk around during the weekdays and seek out some interesting clues.

A fresh look at the way it's done is always welcome. We can still give a lot of background support and lots of (probably unwanted and perhaps unneeded) advice.

Please call Sharon on 2982 2800 or email <dashansa1@yahoo.com> if you think you can contribute any time/ideas to this worthy charity project!

Giddy Up Rudolph!"

[Lamma Island, 01 December 2015] Oyez, Oyez!

Learn about the latest on Lamma’s Operation Santa Claus 2015 effort. Here is a special update for all you eager beavers and wannabe elves and reindeers!

Treasure Hunt

Work on the 17th Annual Island Bar Treasure Hunt is progressing apace with a fantastic new crew laying and designing the trail and clues. It’s a lot of work, with the organisers putting hearts, souls and a lot of footwork into making it happen.

So join us for the 17th Treasure Hunt, starting at midday at The Island Bar on December 6 (Sunday). For just a $500 entry fee per team, all of which will go to OSC, we invite you to turn up with your team of four (or so) and be prepared to be cryptically challenged, as you wend your way through the side lanes and paths of Yung Shue Wan and its surrounds. We are almost prepared to bet that you will find places you never even knew existed!

And during the slight hiatus between finishing the trail and the presentation of the awards, Lamma will also enjoy a VERY SECRET visit by a VIP (shhh name withheld, but as a free clue, he will be very jolly and dressed in red) for the little ones to enjoy a photo op and a sweetie.

Christmas Music Quiz

Other upcoming events include more great news! This year’s Christmas MUSIC Quiz will be held at The Island Bar on Saturday, 12 December, at 8:00pm. Quizmeister Dave heralds thought-provoking challenges, some head-scratching melodiesand good fun in both presentation and content. Bring your money and brains or bring your money and leave your brain at home! It’s all in a good charitable cause and will give you hours of enjoyment!

Santa Sprint

The Annual Santa Sprint, organised by the Lamma Outriggers,is where you can expect to see some very glamorous Santas manning their various craft in a friendly competition in Yung Shue Wan Bay. Date and details for this event to be confirmed.

Bonus Quiz

Look for more updates as other activities come on line. One that is already in the pipeline is a Bonus Quiz for OSC planned for early January at The Waterfront Bar and Restaurant, so don’t let the Christmas festivities ruin your brain cells – keep up your Christmas cheer for early in the New Year.

We have prizes galore for all the activities organised for OSC on Lamma, generously donated by local restaurants, bars, hairdressers and a few philanthropic individuals as well!

Lamma supports OSC every year. This promises to be one of the best! Join us to enjoy the fun of Lamma and support Operation Santa Claus 2015!

Sharon of The Island Bar writes:

Kung Fu Pandas came in with most correct answers.
Dan's Lil' Ho's came in with second most correct answers (and a faster time).
The Island Bar Barians won best name.

Perhaps say everyone won a prize for something or other, however silly. And a lot of fun was 'ad by all!

As always, there is a heck of a lot of behind the scenes stuff so everyone deserves an accolade for helping out. - Treasure Hunt - David, Betty, Robert, Angie, (the route and the day and all the IT) Andy, Louise (skipping rope attendants) and of course Shhh You Know Who, and Theresa who decorated his Grotto, plus Alicia, Head Elf and her team who collected through the village. Plus everyone who supported the event. It was lots of fun in the end.

We have the next event on Saturday - The Island Bar Christmas Music Quiz!. And don't forget the Santa Sprint, which I believe is on Jan 1st.

Dawn is i/c of the Santa Sprint which is always a hoot! Join them for sandwiches and Season's Greetings in The Island Bar on the day!

Best wishes, season's greetings and bags of holiday happiness to you and Lamma-Por!

From the Island Bar:

22 December 2015

Over hills and through dales, the 17th Annual Treasure Hunt in aid of OSC saw dozens of avid walkers following cryptic clues and generally getting lost around the Yung Shue Wan environs of Lamma Island.

Up stairs, through muddy paths, singing silly songs and skipping in time to Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, the intrepid Treasure Hunters were undeterred, with every team completing the course (although one recorded the longest ever team time, having started first and arriving back at The Island Bar, last).

All in aid of OSC, the Lamma stalwarts also held a Christmas Music Quiz and the Paddlers will later host The Annual Santa Sprint on New Year’s Day, dressing up in Santa togs, paddling their way from Tai Wan To Beach to Yung Shue Wan.

All good fun. All in good spirit. All in a good Cause. Go Lamma!

The Treasure Hunt is doubling this year (usual race in the morning, plus an advanced race in the afternoon)!
More events being added as well, for example:

Robert Lockyear writes:

Operation Santa Lamma Charity Half Marathon and 10 km route. Sunday 4th December 2016.

Starting at the plaza near police station complete one circuit to the back of The Island Bar, then follow purple to the red line again and complete second circuit
That's the 21.1 km half marathon. It is a very challenging trail.

Some, but not all, Operation Santa Claus happenings on Lamma on Sunday, Dec 4, '16, are listed on the SCMP's OSC website already: http://osc.scmp.com/events/community

By the way, Hans Andersen Club in Tai Wan Village (and other places outside Lamma) will be one of the 20+ beneficiaries of this year's Operation Santa Claus: http://osc.scmp.com/article/bene_list/elderly

The project they applied for is a bit similar to the Storytelling events below, but for elderlies:
