The Bay is nothing like the former Cococabana in Mo Tat Wan.

Now even stopping for coffee is not recommended. The place looks really run down, the manager hasn't got a clue of what Mediterranean food looks or tastes like, the menu is a poutpourri of Western dishes, the kind you can find in any Chinese-run socalled "Western" restaurants: hot dogs and burgers are not exactly Mediterranean dishes.

After taking a look at the menu, we decided to have only hot drinks and eat somewhere else in YSW.

We ordered a double espresso and a cappuccino. They arrived lukewarm with.... a complimentary bowl of spicy peanuts! WTF?!

The music was awful, some elevator music from the 80s, my friend suspects Kenny G, but i cannot confirm because i have no idea what Kenny G music sounds like.

The worst surprise was the bill, HK$ 80 for a coffee and a cappuccino. For that price you can have 2 tea sets with cheesecake at Shelly's cakes in YSW.

Needless to say i will never go back.

Thank you for this food review, an all too rare and worthy message in this forum these days and much appreciated! Also thanks for the warning, as it's a long way to go there and then be so disappointed.

This sounds like there's new management or ownership at The Bay, as this is a very different experience from my own less than 1 year ago. It definitely wasn't Jean-Paul of Cococabana's former amazing 5-star Corsican/French cuisine anymore, but it held up a pretty decent hotel coffee shop-style menu with very nice seafood quite recently, targeted at the junk trip crowd almost exclusively, definitely not a hot dog and burger joint. I've got to bike down there for a late lunch sometime very soon and investigate myself...

The Bay has improved dramatically recently, judging from my regular stopovers down there. Whenever I'm exploring the hills and beaches of South Lamma, it's my usual late-lunch end of my hikes and bike rides, so relaxing on a clean beach and maybe the only Lamma restaurant you can park your sailboat just outside on the beach:

I've also finally managed to convince them to advertise on the home page again a few months back, after Jean-Paul Gauci's Cococabana before has been a loyal advertiser for years.

By the way, they're still looking for a Senior waiter/Manager. Accommodation provided, see contacts below.

So you can expect more photos and news from Mo Tat Wan soon. For example, their very reasonably-priced Christmas dinner:

Submitted by The Bay.
One of the mains choices is "Frilled Lamb". Sounds tempting....

Which other Lamma restaurants (besides The Bay, The Waterfront and Concerto Inn's Palm Tree) are offering Valentine's Day menus?

Christmas/New Year dinners at THE BAY [ Mediterranean Restaurant ] (as they like to be known these days).

They've also started up a very pretty and informative Facebook page, one of just a handful of restaurants doing so:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/THE-BAY-Mediterranean-Restaurant-/472393356144777

They even grabbed a few of my photos for their Facebook page, from my occasional visits to my own favourite restaurant in South Lamma, late lunch after a hike or bike ride.

Here are two photo galleries with some of my pictures, click to view:

Thanks, Anton, I'll let them know to do that next time.

I grabbed the menu as a JPG file from their website - http://www.thebayhk.com/special.html - noticed the squiggly lines, but didn't want to do all the Photoshopping to clean them up.

Who else has Christmas/New Year specials?
There seem to be just a few Lamma restaurants who bother to offer any special menus, definitely fewer than in earlier years.
A sign of the huge drop in Lamma visitors?

Oh dear... the Christmas menu seems like a 'mish mash' of different foods, and doesn't sound very appetizing :-(

And you don't even get a drink for your $400, apart from tea or coffee ...
