There'll be a marine mammal survey/assessment for South Lamma conducted this summer, by some consultancy for BoL.
The results might be made public later, similar to the upcoming-soon archeological and other surveys. Some of their past surveys make for most interesting reading, like the Social Impact Assessment detailing the history and status of the villages down there.
Hiking & biking & photographing down there quite frequently these days, I notice little changes happening here and there already, especially when talking to the locals, due to the increased attention South Lamma gets from all sides. But a whale shark sighting seems to be a first.
