Apart of the brown kites, are there any other predatory birds on Lamma known to birds experts? The bird was at least twice the size of the common brown kite I can see very often on Lamma. I can say that fo certain because two kites tried to attack the bird when it was hovering above Coleman’s beach on 7 July. It was light grey with some dark patches. The tail was certainly light grey if not white. It was quite uncaring about the attacks. Apparently just the size of it was intimidating to the kites. Unfortunately, I can not deliver any photograph. |

Probably a white-bellied sea eagle, resident and much larger than the black kites. I saw one being mobbed by black kites too a couple of years ago and managed to get a shot - you can compare the size. Thanks for the photo. The one on your shot is very much close to what I saw -the size, the shape, the shape of tail. The slight difference was the plumage was more "patchy"; not that distinct white and dark zones. May be plumage of a young one. Anyway, it was great to see that magnificent creature living on the remote part of Lamma. |
