Nobody picked up the black-necked starling (Sturnus nigricollis) on the previous page. 75 more millilitres of red wine for me please.

Wondering when somebody would notice - nice to see you go back & look at the pics.
10 points for the correct answer & an extra 5 for paying attention.

BTW - Warbler has been in HKBWS for 5 days & no answer - guess they're too busy.

Am also giving Zep 10 points for giving everybody else a chance with the Starling - moves him up to 109 - enough for a bottle of delicious wine - I'll PM you to make arrangements for delivery.

Current standing towards the next bottle of magnificent red wine is:
Zep - 9 points
Chav - 55 points
Minibeast - 20 points
L-B - 39 points
Ageing Bimbo - 10 points

I think your source may be right - this looks suspiciously like an orange-headed ground thrush. The male pictured in the book has a grey back, but the female or immature is described as having an olive-brown back. This is a rare bird in these parts and would be quite a spectacular sighting on Lamma, never mind getting a picture of it.

Needless to say you have got yourself another 10 points.

Let's clean up a bit of your backlog:

long-tailed shrike? I would call it a rufous-backed shrike, but I see from the book that both refer to the same bird (Lanius schach)

On this page - Silky or red-billed starling (Sturnus sericeus)

Nice pictures of this and the orange-headede ground thrush, by the way.

Lurking in the swamp, white-breasted waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus)

Next, as you suspect, grey backed thrush (Turdus hortulorum)

next one a male Japanese or grey thrush (Turdus cardis)

The last one's a bit of a mystery. It's hard to tell without more detail. Possibly a female Siberian rubythroat (Luscinia calliope)???
