From Andy Maluche:

"A large flock of the common Forest Bottle group together for their annual mating ritual.
It is interesting to see the large number of juveniles, recognisable through their dark green color.
Lamma island, Hong Kong."

I wonder if it would be a good idea to close this thread and re-post content under individual species names? This is because with 90-odd pages, it is almost impossible to find anything specific without scrolling through endless pages. What do yous think?

mmm... I tried that b4 a few years back... & whilst it seemed a good idea at the time, didn't really work... feel that in here is better in its present form as a sort of blog.
Having said that... I have set up a fb page in which I am attempting to do as you suggest... keeping the main page as a blog, & using albums for the different species pics (& may also be able to put a pdf image in each album with details of each species or specific notes relating to certain species)... have only recently started it, but have loaded 20 or so images so far.
Seems a better format to do as you suggest in fb

It might be possible to do both, leave this thread as it is and create some kind of archive based on species. I'll value LG's opinion on this. I wanted to find your postings of orange-headed ground thrush a few months back, and finally gave up as I could not locate them. Even if you get a hit on the search engine, you are just directed to the beginning of the thread and still have to wade through.

Yes... have had same difficulties.
If you look thru the index in F&F you will see where I had made numerous "sub-threads" about 5yrs ago... but the difficulty still remains, inasmuch as you still have to go through a number of pages of non-bird related threads to find a particular species.... & then when yu get there, there are no pics coz I have long since ceased my web page containing all the images... in fb, the images are stored by fb
FB seems to be more suitably set up... whereby anybody can still post in blog form & the pics or particular species information can be put into albums.

Last night I set up a Public Group, as opposed to a "page" which I had previously started... & have sent L-G a member request.... so that he will have normal access for information for the main site to gather his story info as a member of the Group.
Whilst the forums are still active, they have in large part been replaced by fb "Public Groups"... Ie.. "Lamma Snake Sightings", & "Lamma Island Residents" & ex-residents" etc
The idea of the Group is to build mainly on awareness of what is around us thru pics etc... but also for ppl to have an easier access to info about birds, birding, equipment etc, & also to list sightings in areas for the benefit of others... & perhaps special interests/ concerns about Lamma bird life.. case maybe the quarry plans... which are loaded with migrant birds... but are normally overlooked in the general cause against the quarry.
Also the "blog" entries can remain floating at the top of the blog as long as the conversation/entries continue, rather than being in a general F&F thread list

Just my thoughts

With Anonymous Guy back in the game after such a long absence, plus several other great bird photographers out there, I'm extending the Spotlights of the Week on the home page and on Facebook by a "Lamma Bird of the Week", adding a new category.

Wildlife of the Week will not feature birds anymore as there's more than enough other amazing wildlife on our island.
"Wildlife" will include Flora & Fauna, not just animals, so expect lots of plant shots by Rambler, snakes and other creepy crawlies, basically anything that's alive here, besides us (sometimes) boring humans!

First up, pride of being the very first Lamma Bird of the Week: Guy's Kingfisher above!

Great photos. Guy, I guess, the next set of the Kingfisher will be with the reflection of your face and camera in the bird's eye.
