Harry's photo above also made it into an SCMP story:

Who is this guy? Slender, about 1 m long (I am an engineer); did not respond to scratching behind the ear...

Looks like our non-venomous friend the copperhead racer Coelognathus radiatus. To get it to respond to the ear scratching thing you are supposed to give it a kiss and say 'who's a pretty boy, then?'

Bright green one on path to Tai Peng this evening. About 2.5-3ft long. Guess it was either Greater green snake or Bamboo pit viper. I possibly shouldn't have skipped so close to get past it.

Gorgeous python spotted on the path this afternoon between Pak Kok and Nga Kau Wan. He/she looked about to cross the path, but gave up when we came along. Treated us to a petulant hiss before ceding the right of way and slithering back into the woods.

Would estimate 10-12 feet in length and at least 6 inches diameter. Not a small potato! Couldn't get a good head shot through the foliage, but here're a couple of body shots:

Wolf snakes have been spotted on Lamma as well, but they seem to be very rare.

We've got at least a dozen different species thriving here and it would be interesting to get a list and pictures.
Anybody? Zep? Howard? ;-)

A fine photo from the garden of HK Dog Rescue's Sally Andersen, an Indo-Chinese Rat Snake.
A Lamma Wildlife Photo of the Week, a first for Sally, I believe, as her many great pet photos do not qualify as "wildlife".

Should we have a Lamma Pet of the Week?
We might get flooded with photos...

Snake spotted in Yung Shue Long New Village today. Length I'd guess at about 2m but quite thin.

Spotted by you today?
I thought that you'd left Lamma like... decades ago?

Just visiting or, like many ex-Lammaites, moving back here?

P. S. Is your brain still fried? . ;~}

Brain is still fried but yes it was spotted today. Yes I live here for several months each year and have a flat here. I'm now homeless in the UK. Do like to spot the occasional snake and saw a Red Mountain Racer snake up Ma On Shan recently.

Not really "wildlife" category

Author:  Lamma-Gung [ Tue Aug 18, 2015 2:22 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Reptiles (Snakes etc) on Lamma

"Wildlife" includes flora and fauna, dead or alive or dead like this unfortunate Wolf Snake.
Your amazing macro shots of dry, dead leaves and similar also qualify. ;-)
