Somebody just emailed me that he heard a Koel calling this morning at Hung Shing Yeah beach. Koels are usually announcing springtime and the first Koel of the season is a big thing to quite a few Lammaites.

Is spring coming soon? It seems hard to see it that way, with all the wind and rain and cold this morning, even the local fishermen did not go out last night, according to this birdwatcher!

Have been hearing Koels for a couple of weeks. May have been confused by the mild weather, and were just revving up when this cold snap arrived.

It is however very noticeable the lack of "cold-weather" migrants in HK...., although this may change soon with the very bad weather being experienced in China.
