Location: A drainage ditch near you
Sheila, was this near a swamp or some water body? It looks like a checkered keelback (non-venomous) but I can't see the shape of the head.

Not really a water body, but a regular source of water as it was the drain outside my kitchen. A keelback? I assumed a rat snake. What should the shape of the head be? The snakes head was covered in mud. I'll look through the photos .

Nobby, the frog was beyond help, with body parts on the wrong side of his/her skin and the snake needed to eat and was not going to let go for anything.

I think I saw a larger version of this snake down by the stream at Nga Kau Wan (tannery) beach. It was 4 to 5 feet long with a thick body, but I didn't see the head.
