| Post subject: | Dog Behaviour |
A few months ago, I encountered two huge black dogs beside the cemetery when I was on my way to Suk Kwu Wan from Ling Kok Shan. I guess they were from the Taoist temple nearby. They were right in front of me blocking my way. They stared at me and barked. I hesitated for a moment and then I walked toward them. I had nothing with me at that moment except my knapsack. What amazed me was both of them ran away from me! Isn't that strange? Is this typical behaviour for dogs? I guess I should bring along a stick next time when I go hiking? |

Sometimes out of fear, dogs will bark at strangers. They are just scared. However, if you venture into the dogs' territory, they may have the instinct to protect and become aggressive. Most dogs in public areas don't have this need to protect and be aggressive. They are more likely to simply bark and walk away if they are not sure about you. There is an Old Chinese saying 'Barkless Dogs Can Kill!' Sometimes it's dogs which don't bark you should be careful about. They show their fangs and growl to intimidate and assert their dominance. They are more likely to become aggressive. It is usually towards other dogs though. |
