We found this chick that must have fallen out of a nest. It seems active and unharmed. Can walk around. We've given it scraps of bread soaked in water, it eats the sleeps, then eats again. Any hints on what else we should give it? Milk? Any idea what it is, how long before it matures?

Shredded meat or fish I suppose. Certainly not milk or bread. You may start hunting for insects and worms.... |

Not sure..., but looks like it may be a sparrow.... in which case water & small seeds |

Well, we've been giving it morsels of minced pork and crumbs of bread dipped in water -- seems to be happy with that. It's flapping its wings and seems possible it may survive. |

I imagine it'd be useful to figure out what kind of bird it is (stating the obvious perhaps!) - then give it the kind of food they usually eat. Could be insects - could be fruit and seeds ... |

Yes, which is why I posted the photo and asked if anyone knew what it was. Anyway, we fed it for a week on bread and mincemeat and it seemed to like that. We let it go then, cats probably got it but we gave it our best shot. |
