L-B, nice article about Alastair, but just so you don't go round telling everybody you have a concrete trilobite - yr gift looks like a replica of Arietites bucklandi from the lower Jurassic period.
Arietites bucklandi being a member of the Mollusca family and Trilobites part of the Arthropoda family.

Thank you, Mr Jurassic.

I obviously didn't pay enough attention while watching the Jurassic Park trilogy, but I don't recall any computer-animated Arietites bucklandi in any of those movies...

So what would be the more common name for this animal? Are they collectively called Ammonites? Mine is more than a foot in diameter and a really heavy garden ornament. I wonder if Lamma-Por will like this birthday present for her big day today.

Alastair is making these in volume, aging them with many layers of different paints, presenting them to friends and for sale as well. You'd like one?

Ammonites (Ammonoidea) are a sub-group in the phylum Mollusca & Class Cephalopoda which are all marine animals dating between 60 & 400 million years ago.etc etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonite - your example comes from the Arietitidae dates between 146 to 200 million years ago, I think.
As for the offer, thanks, but I'll stick with my trilobites (about 500 million years old)

Thank you again, Mr Alert Reader,

OK, so it's an ammonite, as you've tried to say with so many too many words?
Changed my article already.

Please keep up the proofreading of my Blog! I need Alert Readers like yourself, so I can be sure that at least somebody is occasionally reading it!
