Well it was the last millennium but when I brought up my daughter on Lamma I only used disposables when I was out and about. If I was on Lamma I used cloth nappies, even 18 years ago they were available in "nappy" shape with a disposable liner and plastic overpants if needed. With the "wet room" approach to local bathrooms, v easy to wash off any debris down the loo, stick rinsed nappy in bucket with lid and Napisan or other similar solution. Drain and stick on cold wash every couple of days.

Managed this for 2 - 3 years, didn't use many disposables (if you are wondering about them figure out how many nappies per day, times 365, then picture the pile and consider if you really want to be responsible for all that plastic wrapped shit dumped in landfill or incinerated with that lovely toxic plastic cocktail)

Real nappies for real babies! By the way I got mine from mothercare, it does cost a bit initially but compared to the cost of disposables it is very cost effective. Come on Lamma mummies do your bit!

There's a lot of debate about whether disposable nappies are actually worse for the environment than ones that you wash out after soaking them in buckets of disinfectant. This article's quite balanced if you're interested:

So, can we buy any brands of nappies on the island? I've never noticed them in the shops here.

There is a good chemist on Aberdeen Main Road too (between Sai On St and Petrol station). Prices there are usually lower than what you get at Watsons/Mannings. They may have Huggies but I have to go and have a look.
