Seedlings update - Oct 21

Mesclun and Linaria seedlings (sown on October 17) have been growing fast since I moved them from shade to full sun yesterday afternoon. Blue Salvia (sage) and Sweet Basil seeds planted on the same date are also sprouting this morning. I’ve placed a net food cover over the seed trays to deter pests.

I would like to know what are the white stuffs in the small pots in the picture? Where to buy them?

I have a lot of different seeds from the U.S. and would like to start seeding them. I have a poor record of growing from seeds.

So, what are the tips I should know. Very basic please.
