pots/plants at 53 Stubbs Road
Sophie Barclay, a HK Gardening Society member, says that anyone interested can remove plants/pots from the site at 53 Stubbs Road. This is an old house with what sounds like a magnificent garden. The bulldozers are due to arrive with heavy machinery after 1pm on Monday, after which time there will be no access to the site. So get up there fast to see what you can carry away.
Sophie writes: the approach is via private drive, with very little parking by the house. (Turn off to house is on LHS, going up Stubbs Road, just before Wanchai Gap). Please be aware that the drive is single lane, so proceed up drive with caution. There is a security guard on site and he is aware that individuals will be coming to the garden over the weekend and until Monday lunchtime. Any visitors to the site must make themselves known to the security guard on arrival.
Spades and pickaxes are advisable as there is some nice stuff that could be dug up.
Among the plants available are:
large Rhapis
Crotons - yellow leaf and mixed colour
lemon trees
mango
camellias
azaleas
Thevetia peruviana
Catharanthus
Dracaena marginata
Eranthemum
Rhoeo
Duranta hedging
Very large Chrysalidocarpus
very large conifers
very large bougainvillea
There is an enormous mix of small pots with all sorts of goodies - eg:
clematis
Dracaena
Gardenia
begonias
a few herbs
sugar cane
chrysalidocarpus
Sanseveria
Euphorbia - cream flower
Hydrangea
Alternanthera
Climbing rose
jasmine
Duranta
Tradescantia
bougainvillea
Also quite a lot of large dragon pots - both empty and full, however these are disappearing fast!
Obviously with anything large in the ground, please check with the guard first. Some tagged trees on site are to remain so anyone who goes must be aware of that....and the Monday 1pm deadline..
