Celebrity gardening news!

Rumours are rife that Chow Yun Fat, Lamma's most famous son, will be visiting tomorrow morning (Wednesday) to plant some trees on the lot opposite Yan Yan store.

No official announcements anywhere, but there are 4 large holes on the site now...

Chow turned up this morning, sans entourage, and got his hands dirty planting four trees of varied species.

Apparently the lot of land was owned by a family member, who died with no descendants. The land can't be used as a building lot so Chow decided to bring some greenery back. He said he's looking for some other areas of Lamma he can plant more trees.

This is the first time I can recall any new trees being planted in Yung Shue Wan (sort of ironic considering that Yung Shue means Banyan tree).

OK, tree planting has been completed at 10:30am today. Chow Yun-fat was completely hands-on in the tree planting, after chatting with me for a while first. He even sat gracefully and patiently for individual photos with the less than a dozen locals who found out and showed up (or locals walking by recognising the incognito Fat-Gor) about this extremely low-key, unannounced event, with not a single media present, except the Lamma-zine....

My photo shoot is in processing right now...

Congrats to Alan as well,

Apple Daily grabbed his 2nd photo above from this forum and made up a little story about "Lamma - Island of Flowers", without asking permission to use his low-resolution photo, copied straight from this forum, without giving any credit to Alan or mentioning this forum or website. He was quite surprised when I told him. See below:

The SCMP's Alex Lo asked for permission to use one of my Chow Yun-fat photos for his own LoDown column, page 2 of CITY section today, Apr 24, 2010. I sent him the high-resolution version.

Alex Lo made a great and funny story out of it, promoting this website and the Lamma-zine, quoting extensively from my story. Wonderful! See below:

Two are doing well, the other two seem to be failing.

But the area still looks like a bombsite, construction waste all over the place.
In the wet season it's a muddy shithole.
