We have millions of caterpillars in our garden. 2 kinds. Ones that like to horde together en masse. I'm sure i saw a photo of them on these forums years ago, but can't find it now.

The other is tiny and suspends itself in midair allover the place. Usually I am happy to share the place with creepycrawlies but one of these is causing a terrible reaction in all of us, humans and dogs (cats OK so far). Mad itchy, even on places they are unlikley to have gained access to - like soles of feet.

Much as I would like to have them suffer a long lingering death I don't want to to kill them. What are they? when will they go away?

We think it is the caterpillars but perhaps it is something else. Do any of you know?

You're a good wildlife photographer yourself, as seen in the Lamma-zine, please post some pictures.

Any problems with it, email the pics to me and I'll post them for you.

Aw gee, thanks.
I would need to be wearing a chemical warfare suit or use a very long lens. I'll go out and try. The drifting ones which hang from trees are hard to find.

The skin reaction is horrible and lasts a long, long time.

OK, I've zoomed in on your pictures and tried to improve them a bit.

Some of our wildlife experts surely must know these caterpillars?
