No idea if this is true or nonsense, but I've been told that the concrete used to build the vast majority of Lamma's older properties will last 40 years at best, because it's shit. And that in some instances, where the original concrete was mixed with sea water, that the concrete will implode within 30-35 years. Meaning that serious rebuilding work is necessary for many or even most village houses in the coming ten years. Bollocks? Or not?

And does this explain why most HK banks are reluctant to give mortages on Lamma properties over 15 years of age, and continue to give very poor valuations for older buildings irrespective of their market value?

if that would be the case - it would be criminal and endager lives. Don't need to wait for for 30-40 years. There is a well documented case in Turkey. So many houses crumbled during the last earthquake and it was discovered that sand was used from the ocean (sea water) to mix with concerete.
Honestly - dont' think you could do this on Lamma.
