Hello Lammaites,

Does anyone know how much more development they're planning on doing in Sha Po New Village? We moved here fall 2011, and it's been a nonstop construction zone: VV cars, jackhammers: a constant din of noise. It's doubly sad because we moved here to get away from all that.

Does anyone know if there are zoning restrictions as to how many houses they can build, or hours of the day they can do work . . . ? I work from home, and after a year and a half of this, I'm think about ready to lose it.

Thanks for your insights.

Izarra

There is no planning in villages. Any formerly "agricultural" land is likely to be allocated to village housing.

They'll build anywhere they can, and if it blocks your view, access, causes flooding, makes noise, too bad.

If you are nearby 'Brother's' shop, then there has been a lot of noise, as they have knocked down the building, and are rebuilding it.

The VV's today were crazy,... speeding down the paths to the corner (the corner of Wang Long Vlg) where they pick up the cement, and back again to the brothers shop. It was very noisy, and quite dangerous. Can imagine very noisy.

As far as I am aware, they need a permit to use powered tools after 7pm or anytime on Sunday or General Holiday.

Yes, this is true. However the reality is that the workers drill anyway.

When it comes to dumping, speeding VV,s... basic laws (also consideration/human decency) well.. they seem to have gone out of the window over the past few years.

I had to ask one of the local villagers to stop drilling on Christmas day!! He ignored me. I didn't threaten the police, but told him it was rather uncivilized as it was Christmas day, a public holiday and people still sleeping, and basically illegal. He didn't give a toss.

Of course I eventually I had to pretend to call the police, as I unplugged his drill, and was worried about the consequences. Fortunately they stopped, and the only consequence was a round of applause from many balconies in the village.
