why there is so much fuss about the reclamation project - isnt the bit thats going to be filled in the place where all those sewerage pipes pump out

The original plan was much bigger -- that's what got people up in arms. The current plan is a compromise. See <a href="http://www.savelamma.org">Save Lamma</a> for some details.
But Fung Loi is still lobbying to have it expanded.

As for the sewage, that's the only part of the plan that made sense, and doesn't, as far as I know, require new reclamation. But the sewage processing plant that's due to be built on the end of the current reclamation (past the waste depot) has been delayed due to lack of funds.

Risking a lynching - I want to ask why there is so much fuss about the reclamation project - isnt the bit thats going to be filled in the place where all those sewerage pipes pump out all that crap - have you ever seen anyone swim there? would YOU swim there? - it is a pretty shitty beach in all senses of the word - from pictures I have seen it loooked good in 1960 or there abouts, but now is just broken glass and turds. and wasnt the bit that they have already filled in the rubbish dump ?? I have lived on lamma about 9 years and dont remember it being any different. Fill the bugger in I say ! I think it will look ok !

It does need to some but not alot a reserve of 6m would be enough. Hanging pipes from the decking isn't a serviceable option for maintenance. Though on the extent I would say it all depends on what they do with the land. If it was landscaped and promenade included with other leisure facilities I am all for taking 40m or 50m.

5m, 40m, 50m……………! Why stop there lets get a huge McDonalds Super Restaurant right on the seafront. We could have a drive through for v-v’s, bikes and trolleys and some sort of loyalty scheme for regular patrons. I can see this becoming one of Lamma’s top tourist attractions. And after all, it’s about time we had a nice restaurant on the Island.

A bridge, we need a bridge to Hong Kong. We could have a big concrete bus terminal built in Pak Kok with buses leaving every few minutes. I know only a few might agree, but think of the benefits. There’d be no more rushing for the last ferry on a Friday night and that's just for starters!

And i wonder how many other picturesque bays are totally unrecognisable after 40 years. It's a grubby place to say the least and needs to cleaned up, eating out the back of any of the water-side restaurants is hardly the most hygenic of experiences. But it does need to be done properly and not turned into just another Chung Chau. Harping on about what it was like years ago is irrelevant and rather useless.
