I've just got the my monthly electricity bill by email. I'm one of the still low number of "over 48,000 customers gone paperless. reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 29.7 tonnes a year.", according to their flyer they emailed me as well, see below.

They've got a Go Low Carbon - Use e-Bills promotion starting April 1 to Sep 30. Details to follow. Last time, when I signed up, they were donating cash to a charity of your choice. This encouraged me to sign up online which also gives access to a convenient number of electricity account services, "info on electricity safety, tips on low carbon lifestyle, plus exclusive promotions.", besides many of their electricity customer services.

There's a smartphone app as well, of course.

Just a word of warning, once you opt for bills by email, there is no way to get paper bills back, at least not through their online system.

Since in Hong Kong they ask you for a utility bill nearly at every street corner (library / mobile phone company / bank / elsewhere), sadly electronic bills may not be a good idea for some.

For the last 14 years our electricity bill has been in the name our landlord, who died 10 years ago.

I have plenty of bills and government letters in my name in the post still if I need one.

If you keep failing to pay eventually a final notice will come through the post.
