Dear all Am asking if anyone has any news on the tree next to the water works building. There is now blue police tape around the tree. In discussion with the men at the waterworks building apparently someone made a report about the damaged planter and busted pipe inside. The tree was responsible so now there is a discussion being had as to what to do. This can often mean the tree will be cut down or severely pruned which eventually kills the tree or it may as well be dead because it is left with a couple of branches that do nothing in terms of cooling, shading or giving a pleasant appearance. In discussion apparently someone has already raised the possibility of cutting the tree down because yes you guessed it, the tree maybe dangerous. Was wondering if anyone has any news and or if the tree is in danger of being recklessly removed any suggestions about how to prevent or stall such considerations. Maybe I am being paranoid, but unfortunately usually not, tape or human activity near a tree on Lamma usually means goodbye tree Advice or knowledge welcome Thanks JW |

Not paranoia. The government will cut down any tree anyone complains about for any reason. And they never replace them, they just pave it over. Search for trees at 1823 and you get: http://www.1823.gov.hk/eng/FAQ/102004/index.shtm "Can I help preserve the safety of trees?" Read it and its all about the risks FROM trees, not TO trees. And go the official "Tree website" http://www.trees.gov.hk/en/community_su ... e_register and again it's all about "Reporting Problematic Trees" Say good bye to that tree. |

Well, so much for cynicism. This afternoon there was a local crew there and they lopped some branches overhanging the Water Dept building, but the rest was unmolested. I though the pipes being broken was from roots, if that had been the case then it probably would have been gone. |
