it is a launch barge for a submersible to survey the sea bed in preperation for the laying of a 70 KM pipline delivering LNG to the power station via Shenzen.

best get used to it and expect more to come.

92 km to be exact, according to my info.

Sounds like another photo shoot coming on...

How to get a ride in the submersible? But you probably have to certified first...
Soundbydesign, want to try to get in?

Hey cas,
You're certified, aren't you?

Should we ask HK Electric to let you get in there, as the Official Correspondent & Photographer for a Lamma-zine story! I'm not kidding!

HK Electric is the biggest sponsor of this website, maybe there's a possibility, however small!

Get ready to climb up that rig and crane below, Cas!
Shot from the end of the ferry pier yesterday afternoon.

I almost went out yesterday for a closer look, but my friend couldn' t get a boat on short notice.
I've asked HK Electric for more details, let's see what they come up with.

OK, got a reply already:

HK Electric {L_WROTE}:
In line with Lamma Extension Project, 275kV submarine cables will be laid for transmission of electrical power from Lamma Island to Hong Kong Island.

The barge you saw will be responsible for cable laying works between land points of Yung Shue Wan (near our power station) and Pak Kok San Tsuen, to be commenced later this month and scheduled for completion in May.

The new LNG plant at the Lamma Power Station Extension is still targeted to be commissioned in mid-2006.

No word about a Yellow Submarine at all {*Big SIGH!*}...
