I appreciate the message attempting to clarify some of the mysteries surrounding Democracy Wall.
But as with any process as mysterious as that one, the clarifying message raised yet more questions. For instance, the poster states, "...residents are welcome to continue to post notices on the Welcome Wall." This is clearly not the case. Posters keep getting removed. So who's removing them? And on what basis?
And why this rush to "beautify"? It seems to me that the right thing to do is to return the wall to its previous use-- a means of communication for the community. It worked well that way. If it was too messy for some people, find a way to keep it tidy. But why is there a rush to "beautify" it rather than to restore it to its previous useful purpose which has been destroyed?
Really, of all the places that need to be cleaned up on Lamma, that hardly seems like the first. In fact, has anyone noticed what has happened since? Because posters clearly are not welcome on the "Welcome Wall" (and why the change of name? is democracy not welcome?) and keep getting torn down, people have taken to hanging posters everywhere in the vicinity, creating a much messier impression than having them all on the wall. So I'm not sure that the beautification campaign has had the desired effect. Indeed, if anything, the lesson learned from this debacle should be that the wall served a purpose and should be returned to that purpose. Stick to beautifying the truly useless rubbish that serves no purpose to the community.
