I note that you would like to lodge an objection to the captioned road scheme. You may wish to know that pursuant to Electronic Transactions (Exclusion) Order, an "email" objection to a road scheme is not regarded as satisfying the requirement in section 10(1) of Cap. 370 that an objection must be made in writing. In case you have not sent us an written objection, please do so by sending it to 16/F, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong or by faxing it to 21368017.

I would also like to see an open public discussion forum, similar to the one carried out recently by CED regarding a proposed helipad construction in Yung Shue Wan.

I think you'll find the nullah you mention is due for commencement of works in September 2003.

Unfortunately, that isn't a great model. The helipad "consultation" was merely window dressing to rubber stamp the plan they'd already decided on, while allowing them to say they had sought community input. It was far from an "open forum" -- it was rigidly scripted, with only one possible result, pretty much like Tung's (s)election.

Maybe if you had turned up more pressure would have been exerted. Don't recall you being there. Having spoken to the consultant recently, it is far from 'decided' where the helipad will go. If you don't like something, turn up. Lamma.com.hk is hardly the forum to make your point. Frazer

Dear all May I suggest adding the following before the last paragraph of the letter. I would invite you to visit Yung Shue Wan as a matter of urgency to view the proposed area once you have taken objections into account. My Hairy Ass {L_WROTE}: I think you'll find the nullah you mention is due for commencement of works in September 2003. It is going ahead, but though still excessive, is somewhat less so than the original plan. According to some engineers on the site visit there are some absurd consequences of the drainage for the autobahn project. The footbridge where the path to Tai Peng diverges is to be raised considerably, so they want to raise the path to the same level (50 or so cm, IIRC). That in turn means a widening to allow for a bank on the side. The obvious thing would be to dredge the channel, and/or make a hump-backed bridge. That would be too simple for them, though. Always choose the solution that uses the most concrete.

Frazer I couldn't come. I was working in Kowloon that day. I sent submissions to them directly, and publicised it through this site, which is where at least some of those who did go heard about it.
