I can't stand it how these amateur hour comedians are portraying negative stereotypes of lamma island residents. This is not a true representation of the community. We're not ALL spliff smoking idiots.

I can't stand it how these amateur hour comedians are portraying negative stereotypes of lamma island residents. This is not a true representation of the community. We're not ALL spliff smoking idiots.

"The Expats" have done quite a few such sketches. https://www.facebook.com/theexpatsasia Pretty obviously a parody. Not like those jerks at HK Magazine who were seriously and humourlessly putting us down. As for the "banker wankers", I don't hate the ones who come here on weekends, just the ones who rent houses here for $20,000 a month. |

I've been struggling for years against the ancient "Lamma Hippies" cliché, including a few verbal tussles with HK Magazine, but there are actually quite a few pretty funny bits in this video. If you can't beat them why not make fun of them. I've also run out of good-enough Lamma videos, so I use this one for this week. Their very first "The LAMMA islanders" video got "Shane & Chad" a lot of attention online, so they quickly made 2 more for their YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheExpatsAsia/featured The quality has gone downhill a lot since the first, if that was even possible... One video is just a vile denunciation of some Power Station beach cleaners, not sure who it even refers to (Brodie??) and why it's even remotely funny... Any comedian in the former Prime Comedy Nights was way funnier, even though they made loads of often actually funny jokes about Lamma and Lammaites. |
